Platform "3cixty" developped by EURECOM will be presented during Expo Milano 2015!

EIT ICT Labs organized a full presentation day of some of the projects around Urban Life and Mobility innovation area.

The 136 attendees gathered to discover activities from partners from research and business, but also educative fields. Besides the different presentations “From Smart cities to smart citizens”, “Rapid innovation in digital time” and “How will our cities be remembered in thousand years? “, were mixed different demos, and among them was the "3cixty" platform developed by EURECOM.

The main objective of the showcase app called ExplorMi 360 is to provide citizens instantaneous access to rich and integrated city information. The platform offering a 360 degrees view of the city will be tested in live during Milano Expo 2015, that will take from May 1st to October 31st, 2015. The Expo will be a unique opportunity for Milan to promote its role of "smart city", along with the active role of its citizens, at an international level.

3cixty platform recognized with SMAU Smart Communities Award

Developed by EURECOM the platform 3cixty was awarded as a finalist at the Smart Communities Award ceremony that was held in Milan on October 23rd at SMAU, the most important Italian event dedicated to Information and Communication Technologies. The award was presented by former Minister of Education Francesco Profumo, who is President of the National Observatory on Smart Cities (ANCI).

EURECOM student Enrico PIOVANO (framed by Professor David Gesbert) has been selected as one of the winners of the 2014 Roberto Padovani Scholarship for being one of the best performing interns at Qualcomm. This award is given for the first time to a European student, for the category "System".

"Named after Dr. Roberto Padovani, one of the leading innovators of the company, the scholarship, first created in 2008, is awarded each year to about seven Qualcomm Corporate Research and Development interns out of hundreds of interns. The winners receive a cash award of $5,000. In addition, they are eligible to receive a return bonus of $12,000 if they come back to Qualcomm Corporate R&D for a second internship or a full-time position."

Enrico Piovano worked with the Qualcomm Corporate R&D team in Germany. His work focussed on developing a Wireless system modem design.

OpenAirInterface has matured as a top research platform for 4G and next generation 5G research surrounding the LTE wireless standard, it's now the World’s Most Complete open source LTE base station and core network (EUTRAN – eNB and EPC) software stack, enabling realtime interoperation with commercial LTE devices. The complete system is capable of associating and communicating with commercial LTE USB devices or mobile phones in real‐time.

The system has been demonstrated live at WinnComm Europe, November 5, 2014 in Rome, Italy
