The ERC grants

SEVEN ERC GRANTS AT EURECOM

ERC give funds to scientific excellence at the knowledge frontier.
It is a "white scientific" program dedicated to exploratory research, whose sole criterion of selection is scientific excellence.

Maria ZULUAGA

Maria A. Zuluaga, Assistant Professor in the Data Science Department, has been awarded the prestigious Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) for her innovative project CARAVEL (2024), which aims to revolutionize the analysis of neurovascular images at multiple scales using fundamental AI methodologies developed at EURECOM. Collaborating with neurologists and researchers from King's College London and Nice University Hospital, the ambitious project is set up for success, enhancing EURECOMs leading role in artificial intelligence, including for medical applications.

Petros ELIA

Prof. Petros Elia, Communication Systems Dept., holder of an ERC Proof of Concept Grant for his project LIGHT in 2022 (Cache-aided Folding for Reducing VoD Loads in Networks).

This additional funding will help bridge the gap between the results of its pioneering research and the first stages of its commercial development.

Derya MALAK

Prof.Derya Malak, Communications Systems Dept., holder of an ERC Starting Grant for her project SENSIBILITY (2022), focused on the theoretical foundations of the next generation of wireless communications!

The SENSIBILITY project, which lies at the intersection of information theory and computation, aims to understand how we can use communication networks for computational purposes.

Marios Kountouris

Prof.Marios Kountouris, Communication Systems Dept, holder of an ERC Consolidator Grant for his project SONATA (2020).
His project envisions a radically new goal-oriented communication paradigm that takes into account the semantics of information, that is, the meaning and usefulness of messages in relation to the purpose of data exchange. SONATA will transform our fundamental understanding of when, what and how to generate, process and transmit data.

Davide BALZAROTTI

Prof. Davide Balzarotti, Digital security Dept., holder of an ERC Consolidator Grant for his project BITCRUMPS  (2017) “Towards a Reliable and Automated Analysis of Compromised Systems."
The primary goal of BITCRUMBS is to rethink the concept of “incident response”.

It is obvious that research conducted on prevention and detection helps to make devices more secure, but since a 100% secure system does not exist, improving incident response can also be very useful.

The problem is that we don't have the tools to analyze all attacks and understand their causes. The purpose of BITCRUMBS is to provide the ability to quickly verify the status of compromised systems and to help users trust the results of computer investigations.

Petros ELIA Prof. Petros Elia, Communication Systems Dept., holder of an ERC Consolidator Grant for his project DUALITY (2016).

PAST PROJECTS

David GESBERT Prof. David Gesbert, EURECOM director and Head Communication Systems Dept.(until 2021), holder of an ERC Advanced Grant for his project PERFUME (2015).
