Congratulations to Yves ROUDIER, Assistant-Professor in the Department "Networking and Security" for his HDR (french appellation for "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches") defended on December 11th, 2015, on the following subject of "Advances in the Design and Engineering of Secure Distributed Systems".

The Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches "sanctions the recognition of the high scientific level of the candidate, the original character of his approach in a field of science, its ability to master a research strategy in a sufficiently broad science or technology and its capacity to supervise young researchers. "

During our last Assembly of Members held on December 3rd, 2015, the Czech Technical University (CTU) officially became the 7th academic partner of EURECOM. This partnership, sign of openness towards Central Europe, will lead to increased international collaboration in communication systems and information technology. Established in 1707, the CTU is one of the oldest and most important universities in Europe. With eight faculties among whom "Electrical Engineering (FEE)" and "Transportation Science", the EURECOM-CTU collaboration could materialize particularly in the areas of Security, 5G and Data Science. This agreement will give the opportunity to more than 22,000 students to integrate the EURECOM's Masters programs.

It is with their paper "IoT device management framework for smart home scenarios" that Soumya Kanti Datta and Christian Bonnet of the Mobile Communications Department, received the 3rd prize IEEE GCCE 2015 Excellent Paper Award, during the 4th "Global Conference on Consumer Electronics" which was held in Osaka from 27-30 October 2015. Congratulations to the entire team!

Congratulations to Raphaël TRONCY, Assistant Professor in the Multimedia Dept. and his team (Giuseppe Rizzo, Julien Plu, Ahmad Assaf, Jose Luis Redondo Garcia), who won the First Prize of the Semantic Web Challenge at ISWC 2015 sponsored by Elsevier with their project and application "3cixty @ Expo Milano 2015"! This is the most prestigious award for the Semantic Web community and EURECOM is now the only organization who has won it twice within its 10 years existence (in 2012 and in 2015). 

Complete success for EURECOM at the 8th edition of the K-CAP Conference (International Conference on Knowledge Capture) held in Palisades, United States, from October 7-10, 2015.

- Best Paper Award for "The Nature of News Concentric Semantic Snapshots" (Redondo Garcia, José Luis; Rizzo, Giuseppe; Troncy Raphael)

- Best poster for "The 3cixty Knowledge Base for Expo Milano 2015: Enabling Visitors to Explore the City" (Giuseppe Rizzo, O. Corcho, Troncy Raphael Plu, Julien Hermida, Ballesteros Juan Carlos; Ahmad Assaf).

In total, about 80 people attended the conference and 82 papers were submitted. The acceptance rate was 29%, that is to say 34 papers accepted at all!

On Friday, October 9th, at 17:30, David Gesbert, Professor and Head of Department "Mobile Communications", will participate in the Round Table "Tomorrow smart objects" as part of the Science Festival, to be held at the "CIV" Valbonne.

The panel will be moderated by David LOWE of the TV show "On n’est pas que des Cobayes" - France 5. Admission is free within the limits of available places.

Congratulations to the new Dr. Andrei COSTIN, of the Networking and Security Department (supervised by Davide Balzarotti and Aurélien Francillon) who successfully defended his thesis!
His PhD topic was the "Large Scale Security Analysis of Embedded Devices’ Firmware". It was the ninth PhD thesis of the year at EURECOM.

The 23rd class of EURECOM engineers will be honored on September 18, 2015 for the graduation ceremony, patroned by Dr. Christoph Grote, CEO of BMW Research & Technology at BMW. 

Congratulations to Julien PLU, Giuseppe RIZZO and Raphaël TRONCY ! They won the "Open Knowledge Extraction Challenge Award" for their article "A Hybrid Approach For Entity Recognition And Linking" at l'ESWC 2015, 12th European Semantic Web Conference, Open Extraction Challenge, Portoroz, Slovenia, May 31-June 4, 2015.
