In this presentation, I will give an overview of the work done in the LUCERO project [1], especially in creating, maintaing and using data.open.ac.uk, the first institution-level linked data platform for a University. I will especially focus on the issues and challenges faced in creating a constantly updating linked data endpoint from multiple, heterogeneous data repositories originating from various departments of the University. One of the key aspects besides the publication workflow is to show how such a linked data platform allows to realise tasks which were not achievable before. I will in particular present a number of demonstrators and applications that have been created on the basis of data.open.ac.uk, that address several important work areas of the University (e.g., multimedia resources discovery, course description and relations, open educational content). Finally, I will also discuss challenges and work that go beyond the purely technical aspects of integrating linked data practices in a University context: the organisational issues, the creation of a network of academic institutions and our research on making linked data more accessible to University students, teachers and managers.
