Etudes

Davide Brizzolara was born in Genoa in 1981. He received his Master Degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genoa in 2006. After having been enrolled in the PhD School in Sciences and Technologies for Information and Communications (STIC) (XXII cycle) for a period of 3 years, he obtained a Ph.D. successfully discussing the dissertation “Optical Wireless Systems for Underwater communication”.

He then worked as Research Assistant in the Department of Biophysical and Electronic Engineering of the same University.

The main arguments of his research were:

- Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs), in particular exploring innovative solutions for wireless optical communication between the nodes of a WSN;

- Wireless communication strategies for harsh environments (i.e. underwater) based on optical wireless communication, focusing on PHY and MAC Layers;

- Development and implementation of algorithms for Advance Video Compression (i.e. H.264) on resource constrained devices;

- Development and implementation of algorithms for signal elaborations and communication management on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) by using HDLs (Hardware Description Languages).

He was involved in European Projects (i.e. ALARP - A railway automatic track warning system based on distributed personal mobile terminals, IP-DOSSEE – Developing Open Source Systems Expertise in Europe).

He is currently a research engineer at EURECOM in Sophia Antipolis. He is involved in the European Project MEDIEVAL (MultimEDia transport for mobIlE Video AppLications) and in the national project SCOREF (Système COopératif Routier Expérimental en France).

His main activities are currently related to heterogeneous networks and to the openairinterface platform.

Expérience

  • During his activity he collaborated with private multinational companies (ST Microelectronics, Milan, and Ansaldo STS, Genoa), local industries (Datasiel S.p.A., Genoa) and University Departments (DIST – University of Genoa, DIS – University of Naples).
