Fundamental limits and algorithms in decentralized and cooperative wireless networks

Transmitter cooperation is one of the key enabler to reduce and manage interference in the envisioned ultra-dense deployments. The performance of such collaborative settings has been thoroughly analyzed in the literature for the case of perfect state information at the transmitter as well as for limited precision estimates being perfectly shared between the transmitters. Yet, the emerging of new use cases such as ultra-low latency robust communications and heterogeneous deployments leads to the need to question such assumptions and study more practical and realistic settings where each node may have access to a different channel state information that it is unable to share perfectly with the other transmitters due to limited and imperfect backhaul between them. This would for example be the case for networks involving transmissions from UAVs, or cheap IoT transmitters with low connectivity to the core network.

This thesis focus on the aforementioned scenario in which the information available at each cooperating node might be different from an information theoretic point-of-view, with the aim of understating its fundamental limits of communication and developing robust schemes that overcome the limitations generated by the knowledge dissimilarities.  For that purpose, the Network MIMO setting in which each transmitter may own a different estimate of the channel state is studied, analyzing the loss of performance on account of the imperfect sharing of information.
