EURECOM: A Key Player in Sustainable AI and Cybersecurity

EURECOM, acteur de l'IA durable et de la cybersécurité

The AI Action Summit 2025 in Paris has recognized EURECOM, graduate school school and research center in digital sciences, as a frontrunner in sustainable artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. EURECOM distinguished itself through three major achievements that reinforce its pivotal role in AI research and innovation.

Frugal AI: An Award-Winning Sustainable Innovation

The team led by Professor Raphaël Troncy won the Frugal AI Challenge, a competition launched by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and organized by Hugging Face. This award highlights EURECOM’s commitment to developing energy-efficient AI models, addressing a crucial sustainability challenge.

"Reducing the size of artificial intelligence models while maintaining their accuracy and robustness is a real challenge, and we are proud to have successfully met it," explains Professor Troncy.

This victory confirms EURECOM’s ability to promote responsible AI, balancing performance with low energy consumption.

AI and Cybersecurity: A Major Breakthrough Against Deepfakes

Under the leadership of Professor Jean-Luc Dugelay, the EURECOM Imaging Security team won the HERMES AI Hackathon, organized by Magic LEMP during the AI Summit. This cutting-edge project introduces advanced solutions to detect and counter deepfakes, one of the most critical digital threats.

EURECOM researchers continue their efforts through collaborative projects such as AID DeTOX and SPRIND ImVerif, aimed at developing ever more effective fake video detection systems..

"Given the massive investments in generative artificial intelligence, it is crucial to simultaneously develop significant expertise in detecting fake audiovisual content", emphasizes Professor Dugelay.

This strategic positioning strengthens EURECOM’s role as a key player in cybersecurity and ethical AI.

EULER: A Revolutionary AI for Human-Machine Interaction

The EULER project, an educational chatbot developed by EURECOM’s Data Science department, was recognized among the major innovations of the AI Summit in the "AI for Efficiency" category.

EULER transforms AI-powered learning by replacing simple Q&A interactions with Socratic dialogue, encouraging deeper reflection and a better understanding of concepts.

National support for AI and an opportunity for the South of France

The French President's announcement of a €109 billion investment to develop artificial intelligence in France is paving the way for an unprecedented digital transformation. Sophia-Antipolis and EURECOM are at the forefront of this revolution.

CIRCALIS, EURECOM's high performance computing centre, plays a key role in this dynamic by supporting research in artificial intelligence and facilitating collaboration with strategic sectors such as healthcare, automotive, cybersecurity and the networks of the future.
