Avatar2 is an open-source orchestration framework with a focus on dynamic analysis of embedded devices’ firmware. Since its release in 2017, avatar2 has made significant contributions to the field of embedded systems security research. In particular, it has facilitated numerous studies and tools in areas of automated re-hosting, firmware fuzzing, and vulnerability discovery. This short paper presents an overview of avatar2’s key features, its life as a project, and its impact both on academic research and beyond. The framework is publicly hosted under the Apache-2 License on GitHub at https://github.com/avatartwo
