Semantic wireless: a paradigm shift in networked intelligent systems

Kountouris, Marios
Invited talk at 6G Wireless Summit, 17-20 March 2020, Levi, Lapland, Finland

As we are entering the era of connected intelligence, overlooking the content of the exchanged information, its context of use, and its significance in achieving a specific goal is inefficient, come short of meaningfully scaling and is inadequate for emerging time-sensitive and data-intensive communication scenarios. In this talk, we introduce Semantic Wireless, a radically new communication paradigm that accounts for the semantics of information bits being processed and transported, i.e., their relevance and usefulness in attaining a certain goal.
