French-Bavarian cooperation
Invited by the Minister of Higher-Education and Research, Ulrich
Finger participated in a meeting on collaborative work between France
and Bavaria organized inMunich on April 8, along with the Technical
University of Munich. Part of the discussion dealt with robotics and
multimedia. Other representatives from the Ministries of Bavaria and
France were present at the meeting which highlighted a common focus
on internationalization (commonmaster’s and doctoral programs).

along with partners such as
Renault, Hitachi and IFSTTAR. The
aim is to prepare the deployment

The French-German Summer University took place on July 17-22, 2011.
The event was jointly organized by the Technical University of Munich
(TUM), the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU), and EURECOMwith the
support of the French-German University (UFA). The program focused
on large distributed systems to store and process large volumes of
data, known as Big Data Analytics. Students and researchers alike
appreciated the lively exchanges, including during the lab sessions.

their sponsorshipof EURECOM’sClassof 2012 led to fruitful anddynamic
exchanges. OnMay 19, studentswere invited to visit the company’s
operational center. Researchers fromboth entities areworking on an
experiment inwhich EURECOMwill useMonacoTelecom’s equipment.
EURECOMheld its Assembly of Members on June 28, 2011 at EPFL in
Lausanne. Bruno Bocaert, SOC Research Director at ST Ericsson and
Director of the Sophia Antipolis site, was elected President of the
Consortium’s Assembly of Members. This expert in semiconductors
and innovation is very familiar with EURECOM. His election is a mark of
continuity as he takes over fromBruno Delépine, also fromST Ericsson.

DavidGesbert receives the IEEE
Fellowaward
The IEEE Fellowwas awarded to Professor David Gesbert, Head of the
Information Theory Group of the Mobile Communications Department,
for his research onMIMO systems (multiple input multiple output)
and their applications in wireless communication networks.
