Engineers with a broad outlook
As an extension to its worldwide teaching and
research activities, EURECOM’s policy is also to
support startups created in its research labs. This
policy has been reinforced significantly since the
implementation in 2006 in Sophia Antipolis of
Télécom ParisTech’s incubator, , and its ensuing collaborative work.
Today, business entrepreneurs have greater support when skills are
brought together in a single location. This collaboration has also further
anchored the incubator structure in the region under a new structure
named “Telecom ParisTech EURECOM Entrepreneurs”.

“Trying to understand the link between beliefs
and cultures is fascinating. The exceptional
welcome we received from the Nepalese people
allowed us to meet wonderful people. We were
also able to understand Hinduism and the cast
system at the basis of the Nepalese society.”
Nicolas
After winning the Paris Jeunes Aventures award
from the City of Paris, and with the support of
EURECOM, Olivier and Nicolas, two Telecom
ParisTech/EURECOM students took a year off to
explore the cultures of the world. They started in
Africa known for its colors, languages and beliefs.
In Asia, they found all the major world religions:
Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity but also
Jainism, and Sikhism. Then they headed for China,
where religion is not as anchored in people’s lives.
“The change in the Chinese province of Tibet - a key
site of Buddhism - was striking. The gap between
this religion and our European culture is such
that we observed rather than exchanged with
people, unlike in the Christian, Muslim or Jewish
communities we visited.”
Nicolas and Oliver are travelling the world to
explore religions and beliefs.

Two young EURECOM graduates have developed a unique
system in France to exchange or resale card gifts on the web.
Esioox.fr is the first site for exchanging, purchasing and
selling card gifts in France. The authors of this innovative
idea-Younes Souilmi and Issam Toufik-are two EURECOM-
trained engineers who used the Telecom Paristech-EURECOM
incubator. Both of these mobile telecommunication experts
received their their doctorate degrees from EURECOM and
boast professional experience at ST Ericsson and Accenture.
Their experience convinced them to set up their own business.

Cloud computing is a rapidly growing area with a wide
range of benefits for users. The main drawback however
is security within the cloud.
Our idea is to use the elasticity of the cloud as a new way
to build trust and security on infrastructures. “Our plan
at SecludIT is to make all security devices undetectable,
impossible for attackers to spot”, says Sergio Loureiro,
who holds a doctorate degree in IT security from EURECOM.
