Education MEng (Hons) in Electronics and Computing Science, University of Wales Swansea, 1999 PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Wales Swansea, 2003
Teaching From 2002-06 Nicholas Evans was a lecturer at the University of Wales Swansea where he taught courses in Communications. In 2006 he moved to Laboratoire Informatique dAvignon at the Université dAvignon et des Pays de Vaucluse where he taught courses in Image Processing and Digital Communications. He moved to EURECOM in October 2007 where he teaches courses in Mathematics and Speech Processing.
Industrial experience His PhD studies were sponsored by one the worlds leading mobile telecommunications providers and he has been actively involved in a number of collaborative research projects at local, national, European and international levels with SMEs, multinationals and government agencies.
Major research interest His current research interests include speaker diarization, speakerrecognition, biometrics, and acoustic echo cancellation. Over recent years he has participated, with notable success, in the internationally competitive Rich Transcription Evaluations in speaker diarization that are administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST) in the US.
Visibility, membership, committee He is a member of the IEEE and ISCA and has served as a reviewer for several prestigious Journals (e.g. IEEE TSALP, Elsevier CSL, IEEE Signal Processing Letters) and international conferences (e.g. IEEE ICASSP, ACM Multimedia, EUSIPCO). | Additional information | Current research topics Speaker diarisation, speaker localisation using microphone arrays, speaker recognition, speaker indexing and nonlinear acoustic echo reduction.
Distinctions N. Evans is the co-author (with R. Vera Rodriguez, R. P. Lewis and J. S. D. Mason) of a paper that received the Best Student Paper Award at the 4th Summer School for Advanced Studies on Biometrics for Secure Authentication: New Technologies and Embedded Systems, 2007.
