The Multimedia Communications Department is actively involved in a number of research projects that can have a direct bearing on how the Web, as well as other emerging multimedia technologies, will impact our day-to-day activities in the upcoming years.
These research projects include :
Indexing stored multimedia information, which aims at improving the search and retrieval of multimedia information; Watermarking of images and video, which can ensure effective copyrighting of image and videos ;
Multimedia filtering, which can be used to automatically direct multimedia information to the right users ;
Environments for multimedia collaboration over the Internet, including asynchronous audio collaboration and virtual meeting rooms with face cloning ;
Virtual reality user interfaces for more easily managing and visualizing vast quantities of information harnessed over the Internet.
