ThesisInteracting with hypervideos semantically enriched
EURECOM's Multimedia Communications Department invites applications for a full-time, fully-funded 36- month PhD position related to a project recently awarded from the EU Seventh Framework Programme named LinkedTV. TV and the Internet are going through an exciting phase of convergence, with TV being delivered on-demand via the Web while access to Web content is ever more a part of the TV experience. The European project "Television Linked To The Web (LinkedTV)" will bring this convergence to its fulfillment, neatly interweaving TV and Web content into a single, integrated experience. The LinkedTV project will develop several technologies and tools to analyse and annotate audio-visual content, interlink parts of the content with other content, deliver this enriched audio-visual content via different networks to the end user and provide intuitive user interfaces on the end device to allow easy access to and browsing of related content within the programme.
One of LinkedTV's goals involves the development of novel interaction mechanisms with hypervideos and is to be developed through this research position. In particular, it requires:
- the development of an interactive rich multimedia player, based on the popcorn.js framework, implementing the media fragments URI specification;
- the design and implementation of a lightweight metadata model for media resources, using semantic web technologies
- the research and test of novel usages of the second screen scenarios where TV content is analyzed and automatically enriched with knowledge, other content and opinions based on social features.
