Abstract
- The goal of this course is to cover a number of complements to the treatment of physical layer procedures in a wide variety of modem technologies.
- The details of the adaptation of a number of basic digital communication techniques to some specific communication problems are elaborated. Such details involve for instance multi-rate echo cancellation for full duplex operation on twisted pair telephone lines, synchronization and equalization techniques in a variety of single and multi-carrier systems, fixed point implementation issues of a number of basic algorithms.
- The extra systems to be covered include xDSL, gigabit Ethernet, powerline systems and DAB/DVB broadcasting.
Requirements
DigiCom, SSP
Description
- Spatial filtering, spatiotemporal filtering, and multiuser detection for CDMA are all treated in a unified fashio.
- Multi-carrier Systems : OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems, DMT (Discrete MultiTone) systems, cyclic prefixes, guard intervals, equalization techniques (TEQ and FEQ)
- Synchronization : Basic techniques for single-carrier and multi-carrier systems timing recovery, phase locked loops (PLLs), analog and digital approaches (interpolation).
- Channel estimation : Multi-carrier systems and 2D channel interpolation. Channel prediction in wireless systems.
- Fixed-Point Implementation and Round-Off Error Analysis : Examples from fixed and adaptative filtering.
- Xdsl Systems and Gigabit Ethernet : An overview of single- and multi-carrier techniques. Equalization and synchronization approaches, echo cancellation for full duplex operation over twisted pairs, multirate filtering, Interference cancellation.
- Powerline Communications : Channel and noise characterisation, communication approaches.
- DAB/DVB Broadcasting Systems : System scenario and the choice of design parameters.
